Sefton Safeguarding Children Partnership

CSAFE Strategy - (Child Sexual Abuse in the Family Environment)

Child Sexual Abuse in the Family Environment (CSAFE) may be perpetrated by a family member (including extended family) or by a person close to, or known to, the family, such as a neighbour, family friend, partner of a parent or another trusted adult.  Children under the age of 18 may also sexually abuse others within the family environment.

Sefton SCP has undertaken work locally on CSAFE.  A CSAFE strategy has been developed and briefings on CSAFE have been delivered by Sefton SCP to the children's workforce in Sefton to support understanding, preventing and responding to CSAFE. Experiencing sexual abuse can have a long-lasting negative impact on a child’s wellbeing that can reach into adulthood.
